Source: BL: IOR: L/MAR/C/686 - Bombay
Marine. Lists of Europeans in the Bombay Marine Establishment with their age
&c. - 1821-27
Primarily these are musters, held annually on
the last day of December and essentially alphabetically. There are also
casualty returns. Contrary to the catalogue entry, the years covered are 1821
to 1826 plus a casualty return for 1828

IOR: L/MAR/C/719 - Seamen in Indian Navy. Nominal list in alphabetical order,
showing age, ship, date of discharge, and other particulars - July 1840 to 1859
Although in rough
alphabetical order, these lists of men entering for engagements are not
necessarily in chronological order. Nevertheless, they are easier and of more
use than other similar listings, even if on microfilm.

Source: BL: IOR: L/MAR/C/729 - Seamen in
Indian Navy. Fragmentary List, in alphabetical order, giving particulars of
entry, discharge &c. 1846-1862
This is part of another volume as in
L/MAR/C/719 (above). Unfortunately, it begins at the letter ‘L’, but would
appear to be complete from then on.
Source: BL: IOR: L/MAR/C/720 - Seamen
entered in Indian Navy. Returns from India giving names, age, &c. 1860-1863
These are identical in form to those above.
However, these are monthly returns, in chronological order. Therefore, unless
one already knows when a man joined then these, for genealogists are
essentially useless. All the same, deserters are also listed.
Source: BL: IOR: L/MAR/C/723 - European
Seamen in Indian Navy. Returns from Bombay 1848-1855
This is the first of a series of six volumes
covering 1848-1865. These are in rough alphabetical and chronological order and
very similar to the format in L/MAR/C/719.
