Bombay Marine and H.M. Indian Marine Disposition Lists

Source: BL: IOR: L/MAR/C/696 - Bombay Marine Vessels. Periodical Returns from Bombay, giving number of guns, names of officers, &c.’ 1870-74

There are two volumes of these documents covering 1870 to 1884. They are entitled ‘Alphabetical List of the Vessels of the Bombay Marine, showing the Number of Guns and the names of the Officers on ...’. As in the earlier series, they appear to have been monthly returns, not all surviving for the period in this volume. These are straightforward and handy in various ways. For instance, as well as stating the type, or status of vessels (something that can be frustrating all the way through with these organisations), they also show where vessels were stationed. In effect these are value added disposition lists.
